It's All About The Bars On Smith Lake, Alabama

Smith Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

Smith Lake
May 21st, 2012

After spending the last couple weeks on the water, the fish continue to move south. Working clay points early in the morning and moving to deeper water as the sun comes up. If your on the Cullman side you will want to start at big bridge and work your way down. As for the night fishing around the light.  The only lights that have good numbers of fish nightly are in Pigeon Roost. Almost every light east of there is done for now.  Don't get me wrong, there will be some fish that don't move south. But most have left and are headed south.   If your still wanting to fish the lights, the bite has been slow from 9 pm - 3 am. With it picking up around 4 am and dying down after 9 am.  By far, the best time to be on the water is the last part of the night and early morning.

On another note, we put more bream in the cooler. This last week we targeted deep water beds in hope of some big shell crackers. We caught several big ones, but no monsters.

As for the bass fishing, you can put together a bag of bass weighing around twenty pounds for 5 fish. If you target bream bed areas.  From early morning and throughout the day, I've seen multiple 4 to 5 pounders swimming in and around bedding areas. I catch some of my biggest fish this time of year around bream beds.

So if your interested in fishing on Smith Lake, give me a call or email.
