Bream, Bass, And Bars

Smith Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

Bream, Bass, And Bars

Smith Lake
April 28th, 2012

I spent the past week fishing for almost everything. It was another up and down week with the weather changes.  This week had plenty of wind and major pressure changes, not exactly great for fishing. Hopefully we've seen our last blast of cooler weather.  Friday was not a wear them out day by far, but I did get to see the biggest largemouth i've ever seen on Smith lake.

Bream - If it's bream your looking for, then look no further. You can find them in several different patterns. We targeted some on deep water beds and on the first drop in staging areas. We are just a few weeks away from a full blown free for all. We fished mostly in the 4 - 10 foot range, using a Bitsy Minnow and crickets.

Bass - As of 4/27/12 I am still seeing fish on bed. On a trip I had on Friday morning we were fishing in Pigeon Roast and saw a couple fish on bed. As we continued to work the area, we saw a monster swim under the boat. It had to be pushing 11 pounds and my clients couldn't believe there eyes. Even if the fish was in the 10 pound range, it was definitely a trophy fish for Smith Lake. My client got a bite after dropping a worm, but we couldn't see if it was that fish that hit. He set the hook and come back with no worm, so close. Topwater wise, Lucky Crafts Gunfish continues to be my top producer.

Striped Bass - I've been night fishing the last two nights. After the pressure changes it's takin a couple days for the bite to stabilize. The lights around misty harbor are holding less fish with everyday that passes. I've been fishing lights from Mallard Point to Big Bridge. Bucktail jigs continues to take most of the fish.

If your interested in fishing Smith Lake give me a call.

Also I am still running my weekday special.  Any trip between Monday - Thursday will receive $25 dollars off the total price.  I would also like to thank everybody that took a trip in April. It was a record month for me and to show  my gratitude. I'll be giving any body that takes another trip in May with me, a $10 Marks Outdoors gift certificate and a bucktail jig as a bonus.
