Crappie and Stripers With Fishing 24-7

Smith Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

Smith Lake
March 18th, 2012

Where do I start, after a slow day striper fishing Saturday. On Sunday we came out swinging and to top it off, plenty of crappie to go with them. We hit the water middle afternoon and went straight to a crappie spot. After we boated a few, we then moved on to our second spot where we slaughtered them. We used live bait till we run out and then turned to jigs. It didn't matter what we threw, they were eating anything. We caught most of our crappie in trees in 4 -7 feet of water. We hit the crappie hard till sun down. That's when we switched gears and started hitting the lights. We headed to one of my favorite lights right off the back side point of Mallard Point.
Upon arriving it was off for the third night in a row, not good. So we started to work our way back toward Misty Harbor and hit almost every light in between. Most lights where on the main channel and bucktail jigs with sassy shad did the damage. We used 1/2 & 3/4 oz. jigs with 4" trailers all night. There where plenty of quality fish running in and out of the light all night. We used different countdowns and retrieves to land several nice fish. We did not see one boat on the water all night, after seeing a lot during the day. I have pictures of the two best stripers and he said he would send a picture of the crappie before he cleaned them.
Don't forget my special, it starts Monday March 19th, 2012 and runs till I can't take it.
