I got out on the water about one hour after the sunrise on Sunday morning. We spent most our time fishing stripe, to only come away with a 8 lb.er as our big fish. We did not see any action on topwater all morning and afternoon. On our way back around 2:30pm, I saw one fish bust off a point. I quickly hit the breaks and made a u-turn. I passed out a swimbait, jerk bait, and a prop bait, we all hooked up. It didn't take long to find out that the fish were really feeling the jerk bait. After watching Mike " the jerk bait ripping yankee" bag a 4 pounder, I grabbed one and got in on the action. After the bite slowed we headed back to big bridge, I stop by the island to fish the edges before going in. Before we made our first cast, the fish started to bust on the back side. I pulled around and hooked up right away. We continued where we left off, I boated a three pounder and Mike" the jerk bait ripping yankee" doubled up with another 4 pound fish and dink. We caught several fish before it shut down, it was nice to have someone on the boat that felt at home with a jerkbait. Jerkbaits are one of my favorite lures for Smith lake.
