Anna Maria - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fall starts this Saturday on the calendar but the mornings have felt like fall for a couple of weeks now. A push of dry air is coming from the nations midsection this weekend. This should really start to shake things up on the water as temps start to drop.

Red fishing has been good all summer and just seems like it is getting better every day. They do have fins though and some days are a little harder then others. On the good days everyone on the boat can be fighting redfish at the same time.

Snook are making the push from the beaches and passes to the bays and backcountry. You have to be flexible at this time of year with snook that are on the move. A good area that produced for a couple of days may not have a fish on it the next day. In most cases all it takes is a little looking up or down the flats to find where they went. The good news is that fish on the move tend to be hungry.

The fry bait are working there way from the upper reaches of the bays out to the mouth of the bay. Huge pods of bait will bring the predators not far behind. In fact some of the best action can be found around these bait migrations. Flocks of terns and seagulls will give away feeding activity and all that is needed is a stealthy approach from up wind. Lures work better for this kind of fishing. Gotcha plugs, small spoons and jigs that match the bait size are great for this.

Good Fishing!
