Green Water Producing Nice Catches

Capt. Mario Cote
May 20, 2015
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

In my last report, I mentioned that the tuna was starting to show up off Hollywood and Fort Lauderdale. Well, they did we had a few trips where we've caught blackfins in the 30 lb. range. One late afternoon, Jimmy Bishop caught his first blackfin tuna that weighted 33 lbs.

Water color has not been on our side for the tuna. On some of our trips we fished in green water, but still caught a good share of big kingfish. They've been taking live goggle eyes on the kite and on the deep lines. We also missed a big one at the boat that we estimated to be around 50 lbs. Many trips have seen numerous kingfish and double header sailfish in green water - pretty shallow, in-between 90' to 110'.

We didn't have the tuna bite we were hoping for on every trip, but it's a great time of year to fish in Southeast Florida and we've been catching nice fish on every trip. If the bite wasn't good on top, then we put our baits down deep. Bottom fishing has produced mutton snapper, amberjack, big dusky shark and big jack crevalle.

Recently, we fished with a nice family group visiting from New York and Tennessee. We had a really fun day on the water and caught some nice mahi for dinner.

Overall, the fishing and weather has been good. So come with us and you may be the next one catching a trophy fish!

Good Luck & Tight Lines,
