23 Andros in Drydock until Wed but Fall fishing looks promising

Capt. John GiddyUp-Bunch

Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

My 23FT Andros is in dry dock. They say (whoever they might be) there is "No Perfect Boat." I have owned Pathfinders, Mako, and Back Country. Let me state the following without reservation. The Andros 23 Cuda comes as close to perfection as one can expect. 2 simple changes are being made to my boat. Rod Storage and angle of my Rocket Launchers. Increasing both and Baby "I am there." She floats in 10" of water and operates nearshore flawlessly. We will be reunited on Tue. My next charter is Wed. (By the way, Andros is a small family owned business in Sarasota. They build each boat with a custom approach. Think of a Panga built like a Hatteras. One cool thing about visiting Andros in Sarasota is the Receptionist. She will stick her nose (cold and wet) into your crotch area as soon as you walk in the door. She is very friendly to say the least. Trust me, you will want to take her home.

Before she was pulled up to Sarasota this is what was going down::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Redfish: Pine Island Sound is well represented especially North along the East Wall. Try small pinfish on cork floats or free lined. Oyster Bars or bushes. 2 Hours before High Tide to 2 Hours after. Then fold your tent.

Snook: Nobody but me seems to be trolling the residential canals. To this end, I'm eating Snook fingers at Berts Bar with my buddies. They cook some wicked lightly fried fish at this Matlacha institution. The bartenders are good looking, friendly, and have a full compliment of 32 teeth. Some wear school girl and cheerleader type outfits. The beer is iced, jukebox Country, and the TV is on Fox News. Do not dress as a Union Soldier and go there on Halloween! MAYDAY!!

Spanish: They are near the passes and nearshore reefs. The action is fast and furious. Slap on ice as soon as you catch them. Fry at 375. Everyone will guess SNAPPER. Take the Spanish to Berts. They cook em' for 6.00 and give you fries and cole slaw. It is as close to farting in silk as you can get.

Grouper: This year will be the return of the great grouper trolls of the past. Can you imagine anything easier for a charter captain? Dragging lures and scoring Grouper. BUT YOU MUST KNOW WHEN, WHAT LURES, AND WATER COLOR based on water color and clarity. The right knots and the right invisible leader. Florida Sportsman Magazine says that yours truly has it down "to a science." Hmmmmmmmm. Trust me. Direction as it pertains to tidal flow, moon phase, and trolling speed/depth are just some of the considerations.

When it gets hot, I'll let you know. PS. If you go try dragging lures, ALWAYS have one dedicated rig ready for COBIA. I love the eels made by Felmlee. If you see a creature you think to be a shark, throw said eel at it but don't hit the fish in the head. 15 FT away is good and drag it right by them. "GiddyUp"
