Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

The fishing has turned on due to the weather we've been having here in beautiful S.W. Fla. This time of the year you can target a large variety of species. If your fishing the nearshore wrecks make sure to run a few crab traps and this is where you'll find the tasty tripletail. My clients caught a few of them this past week ranging from 3-10 pounds. To entice these fish use a 1/0 mutu-lite hook with a splitshot and 20# flourocarbon leader with a live shrimp. The snapper are getting bigger. A 3/8oz jighead with a live pilchard will get it done. The spanish mackeral are all over the place mixed in with bluefish, jacks and blue runners.

The inshore fishing is providing plenty of action for anglers. Trout are abundant on the grass flats in 3-5 ft of water. A popping cork with a shrimp underneath will get the job done. Also, using this method you will catch a mix bag of jacks, ladyfish, bluefish and mackeral. Snook are moving ot from the creeks and canals. Look for them out in the middle part of Estero Bay. Live freelined pilchards is the choice of bait. If its redfish you like to target fish the last 2 hrs of the incoming and the first 2 hrs of the outgoing. Chunk ladyfish or thread herring tossed close to the mangroves will produce well for you.
