Nearshore - Inshore Report

Capt. Scott Theis
March 11, 2012
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

It was tough fishing the first half of the week, but picked up as the winds layed down.INSHORE- The redfish were along the shorelines. I like the last of the incoming tide and make sure the water is somewhat clean. The choice of bait has been live pilchards on a knocker rig. The reds are ranging from 16"-22". Trout fishing has been getting better. Look for healthy grass and 3-4 ft of water. Shrimp under a popping cork or gulps on a jighead will entice these fish.

NEARSHORE WRECKS- My clients this past week had non-stop action. Let's start with the sheepshead. This has been the best i've seen it. Were using cut shrimp on a 3/8 jighead. Fish are 3-5 pounds. The snapper are on the small side, but if your looking for a fish fry then this is the way to go. Good size mackeral are being caught on live pilchards with a splitshot attached about 8" above the hook. This makes the bait flutter slowly down the water column. The gag grouper bite is crazy out there, but remember it's only catch and release. Were catching between 4-8 keepers a trip ranging from 22"-29".

I specialize in light tackle saltwater fishing in the pristine backbays and nearshore wrecks of Southwest Florida. Whether we're targeting snook, redfish, or trout in the backbays or cobia, permit, shark, grouper, or tarpon on the wrecks. Whether you're a novice or an expert angler, i will take great pride sharing my knowledge and insight to provide my anglers with an enjoyable experience. Kids are always welcomed.
