Tough times were the spring of 2012

Capt. John GiddyUp-Bunch
June 2, 2012
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

The big schools of tarpon must have passed Ft Myers Beach and Sanibel like they had a cab waiting. There is no doubt huge numbers of tarpon can be found in Boca Grande Pass but I'm not up for boat to boat fighting. Yes I mean a good old fashion rumble. Guys are entering boats and dropping the gloves. The NHL has nothing on Fishing. Can you imagine a more wild scene? The sport of fishing has gone straight to the dogs when this starts to happen. BRAWLS IN BOCA GRANDE. It will not be long before someone is knifed or shot. Coming to Florida to fish Boca Grande would be a great warmup to fight the Taliban in Afg.

Finding tarpon off Sanibel (22Ft of water directly off the Microwave Tower) produced tarpon for only a few guides. Again, the schools were just not there. Scattered fish were and scattered results was the theme for the 2012 Tarpon Season.

Strangely enough, we had great success with grouper while tarpon fishing. Free spooling baits ran down to mid water column and the grouper just slammed them including several Goliath. If you like hooking small submarines it is fun.

I'm done for the summer. I'll be back in SW FL early Sept. If I decide to report as a courtesy to all who read my truthful trash, I'll feed you the truth from those I trust. Know this. Reports can be entertaining fiction just like TV Show fishing shows which take 2-3 weeks to produce. Have a great summer. GiddyUp!
