West coast Florida fishing

Hernando Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Welcome to fall… Now most of us have some serious decisions to make. You might agree that most people enjoy fall weather and some of the choices we have is to travel, watch sports, go hunting, etc. or go fishing. If your choice is to go fishing you will find this time of the year is going to be some of the best fishing in my area you can get. Just like spring most fishermen think this type of fishing should be this way all year long.
One must try to remember where you found bait, this information will help you find your fishing spots. Remember the bigger fish are thinking winter and building body fat as they are not active in the cold waters of winter.

With that said in forty foot of water off Hernando Beach the Bonita are thick. Look for the birds dropping. Cast small baits, till the Bonita move away. In this area the waters are full of glass minnows. While fishing for grouper I have chummed Bonita and King Mackerel in within casting distance of the boat. Fly fishermen will take advantage of the small baits but remember white and silver is best. Another fish I target in the fall are Amberjacks… once again when you find the action is wild. Here is a you tube video I put on having fun with a family Amberjack fishing…( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S03Hn9YQheE ) I hope you enjoy it. Grouper are being caught in shallow water so if you want to catch them between eight to twenty-five foot of water… this is the time of the year (BUT) watch the weather and cold fronts.

The black drum fishing has been hit and miss… as they don't live here. While you're fishing always look for them traveling by our area. Red fishing has picked up on the outer edges of the key's and very shallow water rocks. Spin fishermen as well as fly fishermen alike are doing well fishing small pinfish baits, cut mullet of pinfish flies. The bigger trout are also feeding in the shallow water I use Salt Water Assassins with lighter jig heads and the flies I like are Bass Assassin crappie flies ( I make them myself).

I could go on and on as you can see, I love fall fishing.
