Snook and Red fish bites are great in Matlacha from St. James up

Capt. Jim Conant

Matlacha - Saltwater Fishing Report

Snook and Red fish bites are great in Matlacha from St. James up through Burnt store. Week ending 15 Aug 2014. Fishing two trips this week with wounded warrior anglers I started south around St James on Wednesday fishing the flats with cut bait. We were on the bite early as the tide was going out hitting several Reds and quite a few snook at the bottom of the tide. On Friday I started out fishing the Northern part of Matlacha pass onward north chasing the incoming tide. Again using cut bait we were able to capture several reds and a lot of over-slot snook breaking our lines till I set up with heavier leader material. Can't wait until Sep 1st for snook season to open back up. Tight Lines!
