Sarasota - Saltwater Fishing Report
Sarasota offers a wide variety of species and techniques, and that was quite evident in my charters this week. On Wednesday it was snook on Rapala X-Raps,Thursday pompano on jigs, on Friday slot trout, and on Saturday a good Spanish mackerel bite.
Chaz Boyter from Burlington NJ likes to throw artificial baits, so on Wednesday we hit the bars around Stickney Pt and the mouth of Phillippi Creek and caught snook, trout, and mangrove snapper on Olive (08) X-Raps
On Thursday Bethany and Kate Steward from Pepperell, MA went fishing with their dad, Phil. The young ladies caught pompano in Big Pass on Bomber jigs and live shrimp, then a few Spanish mackerel and a keeper trout on the flats near Bird Key on shrimp.
Friday we ran across a nice school of trout near the Ringling Bridge and caught a dozen nice specks between 15" and 20" on live pilchards. Saturday Sarasota resident Charles Mancino and his buddy Bob caught a dozen or so mackerel to 3 pounds on pilchards near the Twin Bridges. Sunday was a mixerd bag of trot to 18", macks to 2 pounds, and ladyfish on Cotee jigs, live shrimp, and pilchards.
