Louisiana - Venice & the Gulf of Mexico

Venice - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hot Fishing Action in Venice, La.

It has definately been a while since our last posting but we have been working everyday. Between all the tournaments and charters it has been non-stop so far this summer. To sum up the past month we have had steady action on Tuna, Marlin, Dolphin, Snapper, Mackerel, and Amberjack.

This past Friday and Saturday we had our third King Mackerel tournament of the year for division 7. This was the SKA West Delta King Classic. We ended up placing 20th out of 75 boats. We weighed in a 41 and 37lb. King. Our next tournament is at the end of September at the Isle of Capri and we have to catch a big one to qualify for Nationals. The winner of this tournament was a boat named the Ragg Tagg. They weighed in a 52 and 53lb. King. Congratulations to them.

On Sunday it was back to work. We had John Hooks and family down from Defuniak Springs, Florida. They came over to check out our awesome offshore fishing. We started out catching our live bait and then heading about 50 miles offshore. We put the livies out and after about 20 minutes we got our first strike. White marlin on! We fought him for a few minutes before he threw the hooks back at us. Next fish, 45lb. yellowfin, tuna. We fought him all the way up to the side of the boat and he spit the hooks at us as well. The offshore fishing for the day was a little slow and we missed the opportunities that we had. We stopped at a few rigs on the way in and loaded the boat with snapper to make up for the slow day offshore.

This summer has been awesome as far as fishing goes. We have been averaging at least two yellowfin tuna over 100lbs. per trip and at least a shot at a blue or a white marlin. September and October are right around the corner and that is two of our best months to catch tuna. Can't wait! Capt. Damon McKnight/Super Strike Charters 1 800 318 1720
