Baja Mexico: Magdalena Bay, Baja Sur & East Cape.

Capt. Gary Graham
March 11, 2001
Baja Sur - Saltwater Fishing Report

A Hint of Warmer Weather

EAST CAPE, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO

Sat., March 10, 2001

TEMPERATURES: High of 82 with a low of 46.

STRIPED MARLIN - Not much action.

YELLOWFIN TUNA - A few up toward Muertos Bay.

DORADO - A few dorado throughout the bay.

ROOSTERFISH - Windy conditions slowed the action this week.

JACK CREVALLE - Quite a few up toward Coral Beach.

BARRILLETE OR MEXICAN SKIPJACK - Few caught.

PARGO AND CABRILLA - Fair near shore at Punta Colorada.

.. OFFSHORE: Few boats out this week and no real concentration of fish found.

.. INSHORE: Bonito, jacks and sierra near Punta Pescadero produced fair

action.

.. BEACH: Good catches of jacks late in the day near Coral Beach.

.. QUICK COMMENT - With few boats looking and lots of cold, green water, the

offshore is disappointing. Inshore, however is still producing fair catches

of sierra, jacks and bonito. Thurs., with a strong wind out of the north,

our guides went scouting up toward Punta Pescadero for some action and they

found

several large schools of jacks to five pounds that gave them a workout for

the better part of an hour. Fri., (3/9) they took several clients with them

and

the schools were not to be found. That must be why they call it fishing

instead of catching. While early morning temperatures continue to be cold,

the

daytime temperatures are beginning to creep up. Yesterday was the

first day in several weeks that I could wear shorts comfortably.

Magdalena Bay Update

MAGDALENA BAY, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO

Sat., March 10, 2001

Temperatures: 74-degree high; low 58.

TUNA - Not fished this week.

YELLOWTAIL – The entrada (entrance) is still the best bet.

CORVINA - Pretty quiet with few fishing this week.

SNOOK - Slow going this week with only a few anglers out.

HALIBUT - Continues to be a good bet for the fly rodder.

.. QUICK COMMENT - With most of the attention directed at the great whale

watching available in the bay, few are doing much fishing. This week did

produce jacks, bay bass and a few pompano.
