N.C.Shellcracker Fishing is here again

Postby Patrick Haynes » Fri Feb 11, 2005 11:17 am

Fishing Feb 3, just off the neuse River in the area of Turkeyquater Landing. Water is 4 feet at the bank and drops off dramatically to 17 feet.
Fishing a drop sink rig with #6 light wire hook, and topped with a redwiggler, we cast into the shallow area and slowly retrive until it reaches the drop-off. Once it began to fall it was on. Before 3rhs was up, we had landed over 150 Shellcrackers, most in the rage of 3/4 to 1 1/2 lbs. Last year we landed one there that we mounted in weight class of 2.7lbs. This creek has finally shown signs of recovering from the flood of 1996. We only brought home 2 of those beauties and placed them at the Neuse Sport Shop Aquarium. We bring some from time to time to replace aging fish in the tank. Go by and see them. Good luck, the shellcrackers are on the move.
