I have a 2002 scout 145 sportfish and I can't get the live well to work
properly. I wonder if anyone has found a solution to this problem.
I've heard this is a common problem with scouts.

Thanks for the reply. What's happening is I turn the switch on and
kick the motor in reverse to prime the pump. It works while the boat
is not moving. When I start running the boat forward the pump loses its
prime. The last few times I haven't been able to get it to work at all. I
do here the pump running.

If you have to run your boat in reverse to prime the pump, AND it won’t work well when your moving forward – plain and simple – it’s a real bad setup. No matter what you do, it sounds like your setup will eventually be responsible for prematurely burning our your pumps.

Most good bait well setups have an intake that will force water into well at speed not needing the pump at all. Your setup seems to do the opposite. Namely, suck water out of the intake at speed cause your pump to work harder – not good :?

As far as you immediate problem, it sounds like your pump is burnt out. Try to flush the line with a hose in both directions to make sure there are no obstructions and then test the pump again.

My daughter has a 172 Scout. They had to install a through hull pickup and plumb it into the tank as well as change the screen over the drain to make it work well.
