Loran to GPS conversion

Postby GronHomes » Wed Jul 28, 2004 12:21 am

I am looking to convert some Loran coordinates to GPS Lat/Long.

Does anyone know how this is done "manually". My GPS has a feature, but it seems it needs some sort of area/tower I.D. number that keeps me from converting the loran numbers I have.

These numbers are for the Dog Island area as well as some for Destin. Is the "I.D. number" different for differend areas?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I can't help with your tower ID question, but I do know of a software program that can convert your TD's to Lat./Lon. It's made by Andren Software and you can find it at:

http://www.andren.com/

A friend of mine used it to convert a black book full of numbers. The end result was that some coordinate conversions were more accurate than others. I would say that most were off by 50-200 feet. We've been able to find approx. 75% of the locations converted.
