April 9 – 16 windy all week until Friday

This past week weather didn’t allow any boats to get out until Friday when the wind finely stopped blowing .Monday though Thursday the wind was blowing out of the N.E. 20-25 knots with gusted to 35 and on Friday winds were still out of the N.E. but at 5 to 10 knots seas were still 5-6 feet mainly in a N.E. swell. The good weather only last till Sunday evening when the wind started blowing out of the west at 15-20 knots with gust to 30.

This past week aboard the E SEA GOIN we had trip all week but we had to cancel everyday expect Friday and Saturday. Friday we had a 10 hour trip with 5 guys Seas were still a little rough in the morning then the winds dropped down to 5-10 knots in the after noon and switched out of the S.W.
We did catch some nice fish; we trolled for some king mackerels for about 1 hour in 90 feet of water we ended up with 6 kings and 8 bonito. Then we went after the dolphin, in 160 foot there was a temperature and color change with a little weed on it, we had 8 dolphins the biggest was 25 pounds. The current was screaming at 3.5 knots to the north which made bottom fishing some what of a pain in the _____. We did catch our limit of AJs in 100 foot of water along with some big red eyes and some throw back red snapper. We also seen one of the biggest cobia I have seen in a long time he must have been 75- 80 pounds, but he didn’t’ stay around long.

On Sunday winds switch to out of the S.W. at 15 knots which made the ocean a little rough in the morning but by 11:00 am it was 2-3 feet with a little roll. We trolled all day for 16 dolphins and lost 4 or 5 more. Most of our action was in 180 – 210 feet. There was nothing holding the fish there, maybe just a half degree temperate change, but it seemed to be the hot spot. We did have 2 or 3 Wahoo bites on the planner with a red and black ilander lure. We also seen a 10 to 12 foot shark back in 120 foot, never got a chance to see what kind it was. Most of our dolphin ate a green voo doo doll lure and blue and white ilander lure. Our biggest dolphin was 35 pounds and ate naked ding rigged ballyhoo.

When we got back to the dock Fish and Wildlife was at the dock checking catches. He checked our fish and found one under size dolphin 19 and ¾ inches legal size is 20 inches. When we measured him at the time we boated him he was 20 and ¾ inches. The game warded was nice enough to give me a warning and took the fish. So don’t forget to account for shrinkage, fish will shrink up to an inch. So be careful when measuring.

Hope to SEA YA on the water soon.
