The big dolphins are offshore of ponce

This week the weather was good enough to get to the deeper water. One privet boat headed for south of ponce he found a weed line in a 1000 feet of water he followed it to the north and at the end of the day he was in 500 feet. They caught 50 head of big gaffer’s 20-30 pound fish with the biggest one going 45 pounds. They also released 2 blue marlin and jumped off one more. Other boats that started off in 130 to 160 had good steady action all day long the fish wasn’t as big as the ones offshore but were still very nice fish they were ruing around 12 to 15 pounds and a few bigger ones around 25 pounds are mixed in.

On the E SEA GOIN this week we had an 8 hour charter with 2 local couples from the Orlando area. We trolled for king mackerel which we caught our limit of. We also had 14 bonitos with a couple of half fish; it seems that the barracudas showed up with bigger kings. We did manage to catch one of those fish eating barracudas; we must have caught 10 half fish that were cut in half by Cudas. I also did something that I would advise against doing even if you are a season veteran it’s still very dangerous to do. We had a big cuda about 45 pounds eat a bonito at the back of the boat, my mate kept feeding the cuda till I got down from the bridge and got the charter up on the bridge. I then had my mate pull the bonito up to the side of the boat with hopes that the cuda would follow him it worked the cuda followed the bonito up and I free gaffed him luckily our fish box has a big lid and is right at the transom, I flipped him right in the fish box and with a little help from my mate we closed the lid on him he wont be eating any more fish. Again I would not recommend anyone try this on their own.

We also had an 10 hour on Sunday were we had 25 head of dolphin and raised 3 sailfish, but none of the sails ate, they just seemed to be looking not eating. One sail went to 3 differ baits with out a second glance. But the dolphin were sure hungry, most of the action was in 160 – 230 foot. There was a nicely formed weed line with flying fish all over it. Our biggest dolphin was 35 pounds, none of are dolphin went below 20 pounds. They don’t seem to be very picky on what they ate; they ate everything that we had out. Most of the dolphins were running in packs of 3 or 4 fish. Made for a lot of action and fun.

Hope to SEA YA on the water soon
