Fishing Report - Sebastian Area (Inshore)

Postby bielefeld » Sun Apr 27, 2003 1:26 pm

The action for trout has been good the last few mornings. The high tides and dark moon have made for some good feeding activity starting at first light through noon. A few snook have been feeding in the same areas we have been catching the trout. Most of the trout are 15-18 inches, but a few are in the 4-5 lb range. No super gators lately, but they will come. Redfish have been active on a few flats later in the morning.

The trout are taking top-water plugs during first light. Most of the fish this morning hit small zara puppies, but the Ex. Super Spook Jr., also has been producing. Later in the morning jigs and crystal minnows have been catching the bulk of the fish. Concentrate on very shallow flats with grass and bait early then move to 3-4 ft of water as the sunlight gets more intense. The snook have been busting the top-water plugs early on the shallow flats near mangroves. The Super Spook has been the ticket for these fish.

The reds we have been targeting have been feeding on greenies and other small bait fish, but we have been catching them using shrimp colored jerk baits. Work the baits slowly or with a medium pace through the grass and sand holes. Wait for a solid thump and then set the hook. Don’t wait too long to set up, or the fish will drop the bait.

This dark moon period combined with water temps in the mid-70s and an abundance of bait should bode well for some great morning action and early afternoon action over the next week or so. I will be out there. Hopefully you will be too. Until next time, Tight-Lines to all.

Sincerely,
Capt. Ron
