Tournament to Sponsor Marine Conservation Night
The Yamaha Contender Miami Billfish Tournament will host its annual Marine Conservation Night event in The Commons at the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School on Key Biscayne on November, 10th 2005, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m... Teaming up with the University of Miami Rosenstiel School, Marine Conservation Night is part of the ongoing efforts by the tournament to educate the public on marine conservation issues and to promote conservation awareness, all while providing fun for the whole family! This year’s guest speaker, Dr. Eric Prince, will discuss the latest study evaluating the performance of circle hooks and comparable-size “J” hooks commonly used in recreational fishing for Atlantic sailfish off South Florida. Several conservation organizations will also be present with lots of valuable information about their causes and dedication to preserving marine wildlife in South Florida. This event is free, open to the public and great for those of all ages!
The Yamaha Contender Miami Billfish Tournament, the first fishing tournament in the US to go to an ALL CIRCLE HOOK FORMAT, has awarded almost $450,000 to marine enhancement programs in the South Florida area. The tournament event takes place every April, but continues its efforts throughout the year.
Join us to help make a difference in the future of our fishery!
