This fishing report is for the week ending December
11th 2006 and is prepared by The Great Sailfishing
Company operating out of the new Pez Vela
Marina,Guatemala.

Last week saw the start of the ILTTA (International
Light Tackle Tournament Association) fishing the
waters of Guatemala again. The Great Sailfishing
Company had all 3 Bertams fishing in the tournament,
which lasted over 5 days with a “rest day” in the
middle. We were please to host the “Chivas Girls” aboard
the Island Time (they hadn’t seen such a wide beam in a long time)
– you can see the thumbnails here and on our
website.
Fishing was fast and furious, but with Blue Water
ranging from 16-45 miles out, it required plenty of
cruising to find large numbers of Sailfish. This was
achieved by the last day of the tournament however –
as our Bertrams raised substantial numbers on the
final day, ranging from 45 for the “Joint Venture” to
a record 56 for one of our newest additions, the 35ft
“Reel Diver” while our other new addition the
Island Time (38ft.widebody) had 53 bites – perhaps
there is something to be said then for the low
frequency hum of the big Detroit Diesels in raising
fish !

The tournament rules meant that we hosted different,
and mixed groups of anglers on all boats each day, so
it is hard to draw any conclusions from the numbers of
fish brought to the boat – and in the end, it is the
challenge of our boats and our crews to raise the
fish………..and I don’t think anyone can argue that 56
raised on one boat didn’t give the anglers a good
chance at winning the tournament !
