This Guatemala fishing report is for the week ending December
17th 2006 and is prepared by The Great Sailfishing
Company operating out of the new Pez Vela
Marina.
This week saw offshore billfishing in Guatemala at its best.
Sunny days combined with calm seas and fishing action that
started as close as 12 miles from the dock.
The action was constant and consistent day to day – with raises
in the mid twenties and generally fish caught in the 15-20 range.
One of our groups – the Sinclair party – managed to have a great
days fishing on our newest addition to the fleet the 35ft Bertram “Reel Diver”
with 76 raises, 63 bites and 45 releases on their first day out.
This resulted in almost a 70% catch ratio….a testament to some very
experienced anglers’ skill !
Captain Marvin was full of praise for the team as they managed to
position pitch baits exactly as needed to tempt the litup billfish to
an aggressive bite and so the high catch ratio.
There seems to be no slowdown in the fishing as we head into the
Christmas peak, and the whole marina is buzzing with talk of a season
that could easily match or even exceed the phenomenal numbers achieved last year.
We still have some dates left for January – so give us a call and come down to
experience some of the worlds finest Billfishing !!
