OK, everyone knows about Belize. Bonefish +permit+ tarpon = Ambergris Caye, right?
Well math ain’t always quiteTHAT easy. Why? Because there is a place which the permit boys have long kept quiet about. Where there are few anglers, where the bonefish tarpon and permit have a quiet life.
Southern Belize. Glamorous? No. Huge 5 star hotels? No. Nightlife? No again I’m afraid.
However if your eye is on the ball, ie looking for unpressured flats, miles and miles of barrier reef and cayes with deep blue water beyond, plus 3 beautiful rivers, and more miles of mangrove backwaters than you can shake a stick at (or wave a rod at), then check out southern Belize.
The bottom fishing for grouper, snapper etc is largely unexplored, the blue water potential largely overlooked and even light tackle lure fishing is not done much.
This past 3 weeks we have had three new local records, two grand slams, and a near world record ocean trigger fish.
So if you want to get away from the crowds, not see another boat all day, and enjoy your fishing in a pristine environment, come take a look at the other Belize!
We run a mini resort which you can check out at www.steppingstones belize.com (don’t miss our blog) and even if we are not for you we will be happy to advise you on travel and holidays in Belize
