ok my trip is nearing. we are going to marathon on the 31st of may. renting a 19 foot center console. i was told we could possibly get tarpon near the 7 mile bridge.

here are my questions:
1. what rigs should i use what technique for tarpon?
2. should i use heavy leader
3. can i use bass rods with20-25 pound test
4 what is the best line for saltwater fishing?
5 what can i use for bait for dolphin (mahi)
6 could i be succesful for dolphin trolling without outriggers?
7. should i use a planer
8. what is the best way to rig for snapper or grouper
9 what baits to use for snapper or any botton fish
10 where can i fish for snapper
11 is it best to anchor or drift for snapper
12 does anyone have gps corridnates (are you willing to share them)
13 what lb test should i use for bottom fish
i am sure i have many more questions

thanks in advance

> 1. what rigs should i use what technique for tarpon?

If you are new to the area, the method that is most likely to result in success would be live baiting.

Pinfish should be easily to catch on area grass flats. Find a grass flat. Anchor or drift with a chum bag out and use hair-hooks tipped with shrimp.

You can free-line the pinfish these near and around bridges and channels where you see tarpon rolling or other boats tarpon fishing.

> 2. should i use heavy leader

It depends… If you want more hook-ups, go light – like 50-60 lb. If you hooking-up but losing fish switch to 80 lb.

> 3. can i use bass rods with20-25 pound test

Yes, that’s fine. Set you drags to one-third the line breaking strength.

> 4 what is the best line for saltwater fishing?

Use whatever you like.

> 5 what can i use for bait for dolphin (mahi)

Fresh (not frozen) ballyhoo. Rig whole ballyhoo with a bead rig for trolling. When you hook one, use chucks of ballyhoo catch others on the school.

> 6 could i be succesful for dolphin trolling without outriggers?

Yes, look for debris, weed lines and birds.

> 7. should i use a planer

Only if you feel comfortable with its use.

> 8. what is the best way to rig for snapper or grouper

Too many to mention.

> 9 what baits to use for snapper or any botton fish

Shrimp, squid, pilchards, ballyhoo, mullet, pinfish, sardines – almost anything.

> 10 where can i fish for snapper

Find a nice patch reef and chum.

> 11 is it best to anchor or drift for snapper

Anchor.

> 13 what lb test should i use for bottom fish

Depends… When fishing for yellowtail snapper I use 8-12 lb. Smaller Grouper and Muttons – 12-20 lb. Larger bottom fish 50 lb.

I can help you with bottom fishing. When drifting, use a 1 or 2 ounce weight and tie to about 10 ft. of 30 to 60 lb. test. I like drifting but anchoring at night seems to help when targeting yt's and mangos, but drifting covers a lot of ground. I would use live or fresh sardines, pilchards, crabs, shrimp, orcigar minnows.
