Hi maddog,

I’d go out with the guide on the first day and ask to fish for tarpon around the bridges. Pay close attention where and how he catches bait, or what bait he uses. And remember the spots you fished. And then try to mimic what you did with the guide on subsequent days.

Since you don’t know the area, you have two other possibilities I would recommend: (1) fishing the patch reefs for snappers and such, or (2) going offshore for dolphin. Either of these can be enjoyable without much local knowledge but may depend on the size of boat you will be renting…

make sure you check the boats out real good before going out. i rented one from bud's boats in marathon and after the 1st day told them there sounds like there may be a problem with the motor. they told me it was fine and said to just use it, so i did. well the next day the crank broke. so becareful of the quality of the boats.
