The Snook Shindig Research Tournament is a catch, sample and release tournament with anglers helping Mote Marine Lab scientists to document contributions to the fishery of snook that were raised, tagged with tiny coded wire tags or passive integrated transponders (PIT tags), and released into Sarasota Bay.

Snook caught during the tournament are checked by Mote researchers, who recover tag data and use the information to adjust release protocols. Anglers in the past 13 research tournaments have helped us to document that the stocked hatchery-reared snook are contributing to the Sarasota Bay fishery, helped us to hone our release strategies to improve survival by as much as 200%, and have helped us to learn more about hatchery snook contribution rates, population size, and movements. The results are published in scientific journals. Visit the Science Consortium for Ocean Replenishment for current publications on Mote’s snook stock enhancement research in Sarasota Bay (http://www.StockEnhancement.org).
