Ft. Meyers and Sanibel suggested fishing areas

Postby txangler » Tue Mar 08, 2005 6:15 pm

Hello! I will be down in the Sanibel and Ft. Meyers area for the next couple of weeks and have rented a center console to guide some friends of mine for a couple of days. I am an avid angler and they are novice. I would love to turn them onto some great action on this trip. Last time mother nature plagued us with a strong cold front for all the days we had the boat and it was succesful but tough going!

I have fished the area once before however I would appreciate any suggestions or tips! I have never caught a Snook or Tarpon and if they are in the area, that is one of my dreams! Any suggestions on where to go? How about action off of the beaches? Last time I was wading Ft. Meyers beach and noticed two boats fairly close trolling however I did not notice any major action. Any pointers would be very helpful! Thank you all!

I am sorry I caught this late. March is a tough time for Snook / Tarpon unless you have access to get up into Ding Darling or other high salt marsh, or estuary system. Unless its mild, they are still up there for protection from winter. From the Beach you can find nice trout around the cauesway, pompano between the pier and the lighthouse. Good sheepie action from the pier as well.
