What a difference a week makes!
With water temperatures climbing into the high 80’s, the spring Kingfish run is coming to a close and the Red Grouper season is just beginning.
Most Kingfish caught last week were caught in the lower end of the water column, where cooler water is found. While Grouper fishing in 60 feet Sunday, we caught 6 Kingfish and 4 Grouper—all on the bottom! Adding to the smorgasbord, were 2 Blacktip Sharks.

Moving out to 90 feet on Monday produced Red Grouper in the 8-10 pound range. This is the time of year to find that hard swiss-cheese bottom to find the big reds.
Start with frozen sardines, then drop a live pinfish over after they start chewing; the big Reds will be waiting!

Inshore, Tarpon are thick on the beaches between Sarasota and Clearwater. Fishing Friday, we caught and released 2 in the 100-pound class.
Also, Snook are starting to find their way to their summer haunts—many are being caught on the flats; which is usually the precursor to the summer spawn.
