With water temperatures in the high 80’s, it’s time to get to that 100 foot mark if you are going to have a grouper dinner! It also helps to get an early start as the bite seems to turn off at 10:30 every day.
This past week, a couple of early-risers from Kentucky loaded up on some fat Red Grouper in 110 feet, with some Lane Snapper thrown in for good measure.
As usual, starting out with frozen sardines got the bite going; with live pinfish taking the larger fish as the bite intensified.
It s always a good idea to carry a few light-tackle rods aboard as the Mahi-Mahi congregate in those depths sticking by any structure or weedline available.
We put 3 schoolies in the box before they scattered to find another hiding place.
It is also a good idea to keep one fish hooked with the rod in the rodholder to keep the fish around.
