New to area, need advise :) (Cedar Key)

I just relocated to the Gainesville area and would love to take my son fishing somewhere around Cedar key. We need a place to fish from shore maybe even the pier at Cedar key. Any ideas or info any of you can give would be great (bait, area, fish?). thanx
