Lakeland resident Bill Mathews was at it again this weekend! Having fished this past year for inshore species and Kingfish, Bill wanted to try his hand at some Grouper. He did not disappoint.
Hauling in fish after fish, he was ahead 8 to 1 with family friend Alex when one of the big boys came to breakfast. Alex, a native of the Bahamas, was used to fishing with a hand line--not a fishing pole/reel combination. When that big red Grouper struck, it was all Alex could do to hold on!
He lost that fish and a few others, but redeemed himself later on with a 10 pounder. (see attached Photo). In all, Bill and Alex took home a variety of fish from the 100 foot mark: 3 red Grouper, assorted Lane Snapper, a couple of Sea Bass and a Triggerfish.
Also, this week, I had the opportunity to take a couple of fella's from Ohio out. They wanted just a 'big' fish. We caught a couple of Spanish Mackerel at the Sount County Reef and proceeded to troll them around the reef. Within minutes, they were both hooked up with Barracuda. After a couple of pictures, they were released.
Catch'em up!
