With nice weather for a change, we headed out Sunday 28 miles to the usual productive Red Grouper hole. The recorder wasn’t showing much and after looking for half an hour we just stopped on the first place that showed the slightest markings of fish.
To our surprise, all 3 rods were bent immediately after getting down to the 85 foot bottom. It seemed this time, the fish found us instead of the other way around!
My clients spent the next 2 hours pulling up fish after fish; putting 6 in the box for dinner. The largest went 18 pounds and the smallest; 6.
During the melee, we encountered some rather strong hits; luckily they were no match for seasoned anglers Harry Black of Treasure Island and Rick Isenbeck of Tampa.
These strong hits were Gag Grouper making an early migration to cooler shallower waters. This time of year it is not uncommon to start catching some bruiser Gags as some believe the migration starts with the shorter days; not falling water temps.
Good Fishin’ to ya!
