Back Water Report 10,000 Thursday 1/8 GREAT day but no meat!

Postby bully bob » Fri Jan 09, 2009 6:19 pm

Fished on Thursday, with the FL Fishing "ICON" out of the Naples fishing club!!!!! (not to be confused with the DE fishing Icon John Fryers different type of "ICON") We went back water fishing in the 10,000 islands put in at Caxambas on the south end of Marc Island.

Vice Admiral John was in command of the mission!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Beautiful day and what could be more beautiful than fishing this area and putting in off of Marco, it is paradise!!!

The night before a cool front came through and we got some rain and high winds which cleared out but the time we put in.

Tried to off a little off shore first but it was still to rough!!!! So we started off the beach trying to catch bait fish. Mission accomplished some nice Lady fish and other suspect!!!

We were armed with live shrimp and Captain John which is all we need!!!!! John is the most organized Captain in SW FL maybe the world. His boat is equipped with all kinds of SELF, made and INVENTED conveniences, home made bait cutting station, home made and invented bait well!!!!!!! Mind you this is a 15 ft. boat but it has everything you could ever want or need and VERY comfortable and convenient. John has it all figured out down to a hook holder and sharpening station that he invented and stores in his shirt pocket!!!!!! I am the other extreme, I showed up with a more stuff than we could use or fit on the boat!!!!!!!! John took care of that in rapid order. I knew I was in the class room of a pro!!!!!

First stop, beautiful but no one home fish jumping all over but didn't want to eat, we think they were mullet.
Second stop also tons of fish jumping, but no go, water very cloudy from the rain and the blow?

We did get a good shot at a spot of the beach on the outside where John knew a hole!!!! lots of action but mostly small fish mostly Sheepsheads but short but lots of FUN!!! We both had large fish on that we were unable to get in!!!!! John got a nice flounder that went into the box for dinner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Conditions got us yesterday a "double low tide" and cloudy water but what a day. John is Education director for our club and now I know why!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GREAT day of learning everything from fishing, inventing, systems development, GPS ed and even lost of experience in handling the boat it was a great day with consummate PRO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cant wait to go again!!!!

Oh yes a day on the water could not be complete without an equipment failure for me. I lost a guide on my spinning rod, guess I need to get it repaired. OH wait!!!!!! John, had a better solution throw it out and buy a good rod got the number from John, ST. Croix medium heavy etc. I wonder what my wife will have to say about that????????????????????? Stay tuned for that one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
