Winter gags

Postby bottom time » Thu Dec 11, 2003 2:39 pm

Hi, I'm new to the forum , but not new to fishing!
I'd like to share a recent trip out of Bayport. Since I'm a diver also I always like to bring a tank along on our fishing trips. Well, this last Tuesday dec.2 finally a calm enough day to go out. I spent the morning catching grunts and groupers (only two keeper gags) on patchy reefs in 25 ft. of water. By the middle of the day it warmed up enough for me to brave the 62 degree water. Always wanted to go down and see what there was during the winter time. The gags were thick on the bottom, they really do move in shallow in the winter. In a half hour I shot two hogfish and headed back to the boat. TOOO COLD!! Just wondering where do all the mangrove snappers go this time of year?

Bottom Time.
cant wait to hit the bottom!

We pulled some nice 15"-21" Mangies just off the SunShineSkyWay bridge this past weekend... Pretty much drifted the ledges to the shipping channel, in the 20'-30' range. The deepest parts of the channel being in the 45'-50' range. Lotsa juvenile Blacks too... :D It was too rough to troll... L8Rmate.
