While the majority of the Kingfish push is still a week or two away, their Spanish cousins have taken up the slack by invading the Suncoast in full force!
Pods of baitfish swimming near the surface have been ravished by mackerel as large as 3-5 pounds. The key to catching a cooler-full has been to drag a silver or gold spoon through the mayhem and then hold on!

After you have had your fill of these speedsters, look for cobia at any of the channel markers that line the Egmont shipping channel. Just like freshwater Bass, these bruisers hang around structure and can be caught with greenbacks, pinfish, or just about anything else that swims here locally.
Last year, during the last Kingfish tournament, I had a 20 pound Cobia grab a blue runner that was just dangling over the side of the boat.

On the inshore scene, Snook are beginning to show up at area docks. With large number of greenbacks milling around each dock, early mornings are prime times to catch one of these elusive linesiders.

Catch’em up!
