VORTEX Charters Fishing Report

With old man winter still upon us, the fishing lately has been hit or miss.
On the few days that the wind lays down, we have been able to fish the ledges and rockpiles close to shore with mixed success on Gag Grouper.
Patience is the key as the water temperature (58-60 degrees) has made most fish sluggish.
We have been catching many undersized fish, with a few keepers falling for small pinfish after the bite gets going. Last weeks full moon did not help matters, as most knowledgeable anglers feel these fish feed under the moonlit sky.

Inshore, nice Trout in the 18-20 inch range have been hitting shrimp and sluggo-type jigs in the residential canals. The key to finding fish is to target the dead-end canals with little water flow. As a bonus, some nice sheepshead have also been caught. These bait-stealers are fun to catch—if you can hook one!

Good Fishing!
