Tampa Bay Fishing Report 2-16-2005

With extremely nice weather upon us, it has been the time to get offshore in search of Grouper!

Even with the water temps in the high 50's, the grouper bite has been good. I had a couple of youngsters out on Sunday for their inaugural Grouper trip: Devon Kern and April Moss 12 and 15 years old respectively, wanted to find out first hand how tough these fish really were.

They found out in a hurry! April was first with a 5 pound speciman and Devon followed up with one of equal size. After much, Jimmy Houston-like kissing (of the fish!), April landed her first keeper: an 8 pound beaty that she took home for dinner.

The fish preferred dollar-sized pinfish over frozen sardines on this trip, so it's always good to have a bunch of different baits on board.

Keep it tight!
