Most all readers know that we were dealt a hard blow from Hurricane Katrina and we are still in the efforts of rebounding. With a season behind us and a fairly good one at that most coast captains are looking for a good season this year. The bite on all species was fantastic despite the **** of a storm in in late 2005.
This year should not be any different with the Sharks, Bull Red Drum, Flounder, Cobia, Kings, Bonita, Jack Crevalle, Speckled Trout and all of the other variety of species we target off the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Most of the inshore debris has been picked up and hazards that lined our vast water ways off the Coast's beaches and barrier islands. The Department of Marine Resourses is in the process of getting premitted to create more fish havens both inshore and offshore.
The bite lately has somewhat slowed down but that is opps normal for this time of year with the cold fronts, wind and rains which blow through. I spoke with a captain who made it out past the islands yesterday and he said that he marked alot of bait and also saw birds diving and Bottle Nosed Daulphin working different areas. I just got back from a local tackle show and got a chance to see some new products that are now out for the 2007 season. Alot of new soft plactics that have some amazing action in the water and some hard baits with some very realiztic colors made into them.
Look for more reports as the weater heats up.
Good fishing to all.
Sincerely,
Captain Scott Simpson
