Drum Fishing Biloxi Back Bay 01-15-10

The black drum bite is still going strong! Took home 19 keepers and threw back some dinks. We were only able to get one red in the boat along with one little flounder and speck. The rigs we were using were 2 ft leaders with 1 ½ oz. weight and braided line with small split shots. We used both live and fresh shrimp. Fresh shrimp being used on the 1 ½ oz. being the preferred choice by the fish even the red fish. Mostly fished round old bridge pilings .We also tried a rock levee near deer island ,no luck there. The red was caught in about 4 ft of water and the rest of the fish in about 10 ft, near a deeper channel. We fished all afternoon with an incoming tide. It was a really fun trip bringing my dad for the first time saltwater fishing. The black drum were really fun for him to catch! All and all not a bad trip!
