3rd Annual Shorebound Shark Tourney Presented by Chaos Rods

Postby baitwetter » Thu Apr 12, 2007 1:07 am

For the third consecutive year, the Shorebound Shark Tourney is set to begin again this coming July 1st 2007 and last approximately 2 months. The grassroots tournament is geared towards Florida anglers that do not own boats and fish predominantly from beaches, bridges, jetties, and piers.

Avid shore fisherman Giorgio Peroldo began the tournament in 2005 along with some friends and fellow members of the Florida Sportsman online forum. The tournament was an instant success that gained the attention of national sponsors such as Mustad and Hotfish thanks to its catch and release format. It also became one of the most popular threads on the forum thanks to the entries that tourney participants were posting.

The number of sharks that were caught was not the only thing that made the tourney popular but more so the size of the sharks that were posted. There were huge hammerheads, bulls, and super sized lemon shark that tourney participants affectionately dubbed “lemonzilla”. Not only were these monsters caught from shore but they had their picture taken then released unharmed back into the ocean. The second year of the shark tournament was eagerly anticipated and did not disappoint its fans. The tourney started off slow but jumped into high gear during the last month when the reigning champions, Team Old Skool, were nearly dethroned when another team posted 4 huge tiger sharks that were caught on the same day at the same beach!

This year brings changes to the organization and format of the Shorebound Shark Tourney. The tourney is now an independent entity operated by the Shorebound Fishing Group, LLC. and has its own website. Mr. Peroldo has stepped down as Tourney Chairman and the new SBFG officials include Tom Argue, Gus Mata, Herbert Mueller, & Denny Deldago. Together the four dedicated shore fishermen promise to make the tourney grow and continue to amaze all its fans.

The new and improved tourney will now be open to all anglers around the entire State of Florida with plans to expand to the Gulf States within the next two years. “This tourney is set to become something big in a short time and the market of shorebound fishermen is nothing to sneeze at”, say’s Gus Mata, new Director of Marketing for the tourney.

Mr. Mata has been approaching several new sponsors and has been received well. He explains that shorebound fishermen purchase and use not only high and low end fishing equipment but camping, BBQ’s, cars, RV’s, Kayaks and many other “non-boating” equipment for their fishing trips. “Our site and tournaments will be geared towards that specific market” explains Mata. “They will be watching our different tournaments and they will see what equipment we like to use”. Our sponsors will also be able to sell their items on our website or hotlink to their own site and our staff will provide equipment reviews and recommendations on the website as well. Future plans include expanding the shorebound tournament schedule to include snapper, snook, tarpon, and other near-shore species.
