Wisconsin River fishing report 04/17/07

Spring has come back, and hopefully intends on staying this time! After a few weeks of cold and snow following temps that hit into the 70 degree range, we are again seeing temps in the 50's and 60's. Water temps are in the mid 40's in main lake areas and are as high as the low 50 degree mark in some backwater areas and bays. With this warming weather, the fish activity has really picked up as well!

Walleyes are biting fast and furious right now on just about any section of the Wisconsin River in our area. 2 main presentations are consistently producing fish: jigging and crankbaits. Baits such as Cotton Cordell Wally Divers, Jointed Wally Divers, and the new Berkley Flicker Shads are working well; colors in the orange, firetiger, and chartreuse spectrum have been best. The same color combinations hold true for jigging. Be sure to tip your jighead with a 3" grub for added bulk, scent, and action. My most productive trailers, as usual, have been the Pro Finesse and Berkley Powerbait series.

Panfish action has really kicked into gear as of late. The warming backwater areas are starting to see a nice mixed bag of crappies, bluegills, and perch. Finesse presentations are working the best right now. There are also some 'bonus' largemouth bass being caught along with the panfish; just for a split second you think you have the worlds largest bluegill on...

Tight lines,
