NOAA Fisheries Extends Deadline

NOAA Fisheries has extended the deadline for public comment until Wednesday on a controversial request by a group of 13 commercial longline boats to be allowed to harvest swordfish and other pelagic species in a closed area of the Florida Straits north of Fort Pierce.

Excuse me for the total ignorance, but what is a "pelagic" species?

Pelagic refers to fish and animals that live in the open sea, away from the sea bottom
