Acklins Island, Bahama - Bones

Postby blinejim » Sun Nov 30, 2008 2:57 pm

I just returned from a quick trip down to Acklins Island in the lower Bahamas, one of the premier bonefishing destinations and one of my favorites.

We had some strong winds the first couple days of fishing but we still managed to get in front of several schools of 40 to 50 fish and managed to land a few each day. I suppose we caught about 5 or 6 apiece. They were fairly small fish in the 4-5 pound range. The third and last day we fished was perfect weather, the wind died down and it was bright sunshine, tides were good and we got into a bunch of fish. The biggest was in the 6 pound range, but they were solitary fish and harder to locate in the deeper water. In the afternoon we waded a beautiful large flat, ankle deep water and some more large schools. We were ON FISH for the entire afternoon! We all lost count of the fish we caught.

If you want to go to a premier bonefishing destination, this is the place to go. It is not the easiest place to get to, but the fishing is worth it. Need to overnight in Nassau as there are only 2 flights a week on Bahamas Air which leave in the early morning. They fly on Saturday and Wednesdays.

We stayed at Acklins Island Lodge a beautiful new place, it has been open three or four years. The place is fantastic. I managed to visit several other places and they cover all price ranges.

If you need more information, you can contact me and I will be happy to help you plan a trip. You can visit my website for some pictures and more information.
