2nd Annual Kingfish/Dolphin Tournament
To Benefit the Children's Homes Society

Tournament Headquarters to be held at Fins Grill & Raw Bar / Sembler Marina, in Sebastian, Florida.

Registration Fee is $125.00 per boat up to July 1, 2001. Cash, checks, cashiers checks, and money orders accepted. Click here to print copy of entry form.

Late Registration Fee is $175.00 if postmarked after July 1, 2001. Registration fees will be accepted up to the start of the captains meeting on July 20, 2001. All payment methods accepted. (see entry form for restrictions).

*Payout is based on a 100 boat entry field.
Winners are determined by a maximum 2 fish weigh-in total, for each species.

Captains Meeting - to be on July 20, 2001, 7:00 pm, at Sembler Marina.
1660 Indian River Drive, Sebastian, Florida.
It is mandatory that at least one member of the boat team be in attendance, to go over rules
and any questions that might arise at the meeting.
Door prizes to be given away after the captains meeting.

"Big Fish" Pool - $25.00 per boat additional to the entry fee.
100 % Payout!!!
1st Place Big Fish - 70% of Pool.
2nd Place Big Fish - 30% of Pool.

Junior Angler Division - Under 16 Years Old.
1st Place Big Fish - $100.00 Savings Bond.
2nd Place Big Fish - $50.00 Savings Bond.

Awards Dinner - July 21, 2001, 7:00 p.m., at Fins Grill and Raw Bar.
Tickets are $10.00 each. This is a $15.00 meal for $10.00, drinks not included.

Results of 2000 Tournament

July 20, 2000 - Captains Meeting.

Gave away over $1200.00 in door prizes.

Local sponsors: Galleon Jewelers, Aqua Marine Service, Wabasso Tackle, Treasure Coast Marina, Sebastian Wal-Mart, Anglers Inn, Sebastian Sportsman Lodge, Vero Marine, Vero Boathouse, Melbourne West Marine.

Major sponsors: Drone Spoons, Cotee, Penn, Shakespeare, Ande.

Pizza and drinks provided by Pappa Johns Pizza and Pepsi.

Sebastian American Legion provided the meeting place.

16 registered boats at the end of the meeting. We still went on with the tournament, even though we were at the break even point for prize money pay-out.

July 21, 2000 - Tournament.

139.7 pounds of kingfish were weighed in from 9 out of 16 boats at Fins Grill And Raw Bar/Semblers Marina. Fins was extremely nice enough to cook the anglers fish when they came in to weigh-in, free of charge, which was another great benefit that they provided to the tournaments anglers.

Winners are as follows:

Under 20 ft. category, 5 total boats in the under 20' category.

1st place - Captain Shawn Hoyt - 500.00. Crew, Ted Mooney, Sam Hooker. Boat - 18' Critchfield. Fish caught - 1 @ 22.7 lbs. Also won "Big King Pool" first place = $245.00 plus $125.00 gold kingfish pendant, provided by Galleon Jewelers.

2nd place - Captain Michael Cochran - $200.00. Crew - Michael Smith Boat - 19' Mako. Fish caught - 1 @ 6.4 lbs. This was his first tournament entered in his first boat…

3rd, 4th,5th places - nobody else placed..

20' and over category, 11 total boats in this category.

1st Place - Captain Dave Driscoll - $500.00. Crew - Dennis Foster, Jeff Driscoll, Yumiko Komiyama. Boat - 29' Intrepid. Fish caught - 2 @ 19.4 / 7.4 lbs. Total- 26.8 lbs.

2nd Place - Captain John Tidd, from Orlando Florida, on the 22' "Beam Team" -
$200.00. Crew - Mike Poe, Roger Carden. Fish caught - 2 @ 17.3 / 4.7 lbs. 1 total- 22.0 lbs.

3rd Place - Captain Jamie Seymour - $150.00. Crew - Joel Seymour, Alan Straley, Chris Langston Boat - 28' Pro Sport Cat. Fish caught - 1 total @ 21.3 lbs. Also won 2nd place of "Big King Pool" - $105.00 plus Costa Del Mar sunglasses.

4th Place - Captain Larry Fishman - $100.00. Crew - John Carsner. Boat - 20' Pen Yan. Fish caught - 2 @ 8.2 / 6.8 lbs. Total- 15.0 lbs.

5th Place - Captain Mike Meleika on "Thunder Lips" - $50.00. Crew - Mark Meleika. Boat - 22' Anacapri. Fish caught - 2 @ 6.7 / 5.8 lbs. Total- 12.5 lbs.

Honorable Mentions -

Captain Ron Schuster/Marshall Bruce 1 fish @ 7.4 lbs.
Captain Jason Bailey/Ryan Haffield/Michael Nixon 1 fish @ 5.6 lbs.

Most boats went e/s/e and some went directly to the area of Bethel Shoals. Most fish were caught after 70'+ water, with some smaller fish/knockdowns closer inshore.

70% of fish were caught on Drone Spoons. Silver, green flash, and pink flash.
30% of fish were caught on trolled ballyhoo. Some skirted, some not.
5% of fish were caught on trolled plugs.

$300.00 was raised for the Florida Sheriff's Youth Ranches, from our first tournament. Next year we will be possibly giving away a car, some boats, and jet skis. It will be a 1 day tournament.
