Lay Lake Alabama For Big Summertime Bass!

Capt. Reed Montgomery
August 27, 2011
Birmingham - Freshwater Fishing Report

Nothings changed. But it will, soon. In about one month or less air temps and water temps will begin to slowly drop and these Lay lake bass will get very active, constantly feeding all throughout the fall season and early winter period...until years end.

As August comes to an end its still very hot. Just this past week it was near 100 degrees for a few days. Water temperatures are in the upper 80s at dawn and in the low 90's during the day. Not cooling very much at all with nightime air temperature lows in the low 70's.

Still, (like the picture shows at cyber anglers freshwater photos), Big bass are possible! With Lay lake kept at or near full pool year round, its weedy waters hold shallow largemouth bass all throughout the summer, fall winter and spring seasons!

Weedless lures like both hollow-bodied rubber frog imitations (those featuring two very weedless upturned hooks) and solid-bodied plastic frogs (requiring one inserted hook) are good lure choices both in the late summer period and all throughout the fall season, as waters begin to cool.

Other very weedless lures are 1/4 ounce (single or tandem silver willowleaf blades) spinnerbaits (in colors of white or clear / silver flake skirts) and buzz baits (colors of white, chartruece and white or solid black), trailer hooks are suggested for short striking bass
