Bass Fishing is getting more productive as the weather cools off. The winds are causing some chop, but the early morning top water action is coming alive again. The Big Bite Top Toad is still my choice for that early morning bite. It works in and over the thick hydrilla and through the pads. It has such a life like action, you are required to wait for the second "pull" as the bass has turned the frog as if it were live bait. It seems the bigger bass target this bait. Go to www.bigbitebait.com and see for yourself. When this action slows down, I am going to the Mina Lure Spear worm on a Fin-tech stand up shakey head jig.(Knuckle Head) See the Knuckle head at www.jigfish.com. This requires a strong pole and good line to get a solid hook set in the greasy areas. The same rig is also working in the open areas and flats. I like the 7" version in the watermelon candy or green pumpkin. When working this rig, the worm stands on it's nose with the bait exposed up off the bottom instead of lying flat. This is exciting the bass and creating more strikes. This bait is going to be a killer for those of you who target bedding bass. The Spear worm is also very effective on the Carolina rig. The swimming action emulates an eel and you know a bass can not stand them in their territory. See the Spear Worm at www.Mindalures.com. The bass are still in the heavy cover if you have the time and patience to work them up. The first drop in also holding good fish and any structure in deeper water has an abundance of bait fish .

Pan firs are doing okay on worms and crickets. Some are being taken on beetle spins around the blow downs.

Cats are always ready for a good meal if you can stand the warm weather. As it beging to cool down, the creels will begin to fill up as we are able to stay out there with them up in the day.

The cooler weather will also bring back more of the crappie fishermen. They are in the deeper areas where you can locate structure with dominate shadows.

Please visit www.leekingbenefit.org and see how you can be a part of saving these precious, terminal Niemann-Pick children. There are already 10 entries in the 2009 Lee King Benefit Buddy Tournament June 13.
