Lake Eufaula - Freshwater Fishing Report

Hawk's Guide Service
Lake Eufaula, Alabama
HAPPY NEW YEAR
The cold weather has changed the fishing for the past four weeks. The rains over the three days around Christmas left over 4 1/2 inches of much needed rain. The lake is very muddy now and the crappie fishing is mostly limited to nights under the bridges. The bridge on Cheneyhatchee Creek remains the anglers choice fishing minnows under the lights.
Cat fishing remains steady with night crawlers and fresh deer liver holding as best bait chioces. The muddy water has helped the movement of the cats.
The bass are deep now and require patience in the cold wind to bring one on board. With the new 14" limit, there are more keepers being taken. I am playing with a new version of the drop shotting and will report more as the success rate proves positive.
The deer hunting is improving daily as the rut is coming in stronger. This week the deer are moving late in the afternoon, just after dark and through the night. Morning hunts are rarely successful while the late afternoon hunt is producing on a steady basis. It is Best to fight the cold on the water early prior to the winds and tough it out in the hunting blind with plenty of warm cloths in the afternoon.
The Lake is coming up slowly and with the good growth on the exposed grass beds during the drought, spring promises to be exciting and better than ever. Book your trips and rooms early so as not to miss the dates you want.
Until next time, God Bless & Good Fishn'
Capt. Sam Williams
