Alabama Fishing Report for Lake Eufaula

Capt. Sam Williams
July 6, 2002
Lake Eufaula - Freshwater Fishing Report

The "dog days" are here in full dress. The temp. on the water reaches 100 degrees fast and any little breeze in a Blessing for sure.

The newest and hottest thing going on Lake Eufaula right now are the Kinami Baits. We were out testing the Skirted Grub and the Flash the other day and after working an area with our normal lizards and worms, with out even a strike, we changed to the Blue Kinami Flash and had a fish in the boat on the second cast. We turned the fish on so fast, my party has a new pet name for the Blue Flash, he now calls it the "Blue Diamond". We were on the fish at high noon in the hottest part of the day. We had the boat in 18 to 30 feet of water and worked the Flash from shallow to deep, down the ledge. They would pick it up on the first drop and take it to the deep water. They did not play with it. I tried a worm just to see if they had turned on anyway and they would hit it but not take it in. The Kinami is the bait to fish, no doubt. Check out their web at www.kinamibaits.com Derek and Amber will take great care of your needs.

The crappie are still willing to bite if you care to work and move around. Ultra lite rigs with white grubs on a light jig are the trick. Look for an opening to a creek or ditch off the main river of big creeks. Work the drop off's. You will pick up five or six and then move to the next spot. Keep your boat in 8 to 10 feet of water and work the deepest back to the shallow. They have been hitting in about 14 to 18 feet. Remember, a crappie will come up for a bait not down. If you see fish on your fish finder, keep the jig above the depth you mark fish in.

Cats and bream are always willing to reward the angler who has the patience to sit and relax. This is one of the best ways to enjoy family time and take in some of God's wonderful creation.

Enjoy the outdoors this summer, remember to wear light clothing, a hat and take plenty to drink.

"till next time,

God Bless & Good Fishn'

Capt, Sam
